Family Legacy
Katherine has been involved with horses and the Arabian Horse Industry her entire life. Both her mother and father grew up involved with showing, breeding and training Arabians.
Katherine's mothers' parents, Dr. and Mrs. Harold West, were introduced to the beautiful breed of horse in the late 1950's and soon became heavily involved in all facets of the Arabian horse world. The West family's focus on breeding pure Crabbet Arabians, led to a multitude of athletic, chestnut-colored horses that excelled in Regional and National shows.
Her fathers' parents, Raymond and Janet Rich, purchased their first Crabbet Arabian in 1961. In addition to owning and breeding Arabians for three decades, Ray and Jan were the original publishers of Horse and Rider magazine. In the early 1970's both the Rich and West families purchased acreage in Temecula, California to raise their beautiful Arabian horses; both farms are in existence today.
Following in her mother's footsteps, Katherine is a horse trainer, exhibitor, breeder and licensed judge. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from the University of Redlands and is a USDF Bronze medalist. She enjoys teaching people of all ages how to ride and show and believes in inspiring our youth to be passionate about the Horse industry.
Katherine and Tyler Elzig were married in August of 2011 and together they make a great team. Tyler is a licensed captain and hails from an industry very parallel to horses. Though Tyler did not grow up with horses he shares Katherine's love for them and is currently overseeing managerial components of KRE Show Horses.
Katherine and Tyler currently have three beautiful daughters, Ireland, Caroline, and Charlotte, who are already following in their parents footsteps with their love of horses.
